Introducing Britex

When I watch Project Runway, one of my favorite parts of the episode is the fabric shopping trips. Once we have seen the designers’ sketches and heard a little bit about what they are shooting for, then the shopping trip is such a neat part of their “process”.  It is always fun to make guesses about how the garment is going to work out based on the fabric that they choose.

This season I have decided to focus more attention on the fabrics. To that end, I would like to introduce you to Britex.

I am lucky enough to live in San Francisco, and have access to some amazing “big city” resources. One of the best of these resources is Britex Fabrics, right downtown.

My first trip of the season was mind blowing! The selection is unbelievable.

For the first challenge, we were asked to create a companion look to a design that really represents our work. For me, that was this dress and jacket from Season 9, Challege #1 “Come As You Are”

This dress is made from a handkerchief and the jacket is made from a pair of boxers. But in the end, this look has really held up for me. It is cotton, casual, and would look good on any number of body types. It is “American Sportswear”, and has nice hanger appeal. And most of all, I was really proud of the way it turned out. So for my companion look, I want to do some sportswear (I love a gown as much as Miss Scarlett! But we will have time for that later, to be sure!)

I began my search in the cotton aisle and stopped to admire the selection of Liberty Prints.

I think this is the largest selection of Liberty’s outside of Liberty’s itself.

Every bolt with the red dot on it is, in fact, a Liberty. Swoon. I’ll let you catch your breath.

Just as a teaser – I will share with you a picture of my model in the store. She is sitting on one of the fabrics I picked.

I cannot WAIT to show you my finished look!!! See you on the Runway!

Note: Britex has generously agreed to work with us this season – and are giving me the fabric to use for my looks. I have not been compensated in any other way.

      • Oh yes we will! I will find a time where it is just you and me! The boys, and one baby girl can go do other fun things, and we will drool on fabric.

    • So jealous! The only fabric store near me only sells quilting cotton. Mostly I have to rely on fabric that is already in my stash.

      • Ros, I am fortunate to be in the big city, that is for sure. I have sewn on some “less than choice” fabrics in past seasons. And HOLY COW, what a difference this fabric made. The stretch cotton was SO EASY to use. And the selection… WOW. I can’t wait to see what is in store for me!!!
