The theme for this week’s Iron Craft challenge was Warm Up. At first I didn’t feel very inspired because I had just finished knitting the Sweetheart Mittens and couldn’t think of anything else warm I needed. I sewed my husband up a pair of flannel pajama pants to make sure I had something, but it wasn’t very creative or challenging.
Then I remembered an Eddie Bauer blanket sweater that I’d been wanting to knock-off. I took it out, looked at it and cringed at the thought of all that stockinette. Plus, I’d never get it done in the week and a half I had. Then it hit me, what else are blankets made of? Fleece. Why not make a version of the sweater in fleece?!
Here is the finished sweater, I’m quite happy with how it turned out. This is not meant to be any fashionable where out sweater, this is a big, extremely warm, hug of a sweater/sweatshirt. It’s one to pull out on the coldest days when you just plan on hanging out around the house.
I was able to fix somethings I didn’t like on the original sweater too, like a pulling button and, what I like to call, a mullet hem. I made this sweater without any pattern beyond the orignal one. Tomorrow, I’ll show you how I did it so you can knock off some of your favorites too.
