I have to admit to being a little selfish when posing this week’s Iron Craft challenge, Rest Your Head, because I really enjoy making throw pillow for around our house. I have lots of ideas for them, but often don’t get to making them. As a matter of fact, I bought the supplies for this week’s project last year before Christmas. (This is why I love Iron Craft, it makes me get things done by a deadline.)
I have a bunch of old throw pillows with really tattered covers and wanted to make some felt appliquéd holiday pillows out of them. I didn’t want the pillows to be over-the-top screaming Christmas in your face, so I didn’t go for the traditional Christmas reds and greens. The felt I used was a beautiful wool heathered felt. It is so much nicer, and heftier, than craft felt. After drawing up the reindeer pattern, it only took me one afternoon to do this whole pillow, love quick satisfaction projects like that.
Now I need to come up with a mate for the pillow. Matt thinks I should so another reindeer, but have it facing the opposite direction plus give it a red nose. I was thinking of something different, a tomte (gnome), holly and berries, a tree? What would you do?
I’ll post a tutorial for this pillow tomorrow along with a downloadable pattern for the reindeer.
