Iron Craft ’15 Challege 6 : Glass Pendant Necklace

For this challenge we were supposed to make something that was a treat for ourselves. I think indulging in another piece of jewelry counts as a treat.

This project was totally foreign to me, but I really liked it. It was quick and pretty easy. Here are some instructions.

Project Glass Pendant Necklace

Supplies:

  • Glass Tiles
  • Bails (the loop for the chain or cord)

  • Picture/s
  • Clear gel
  • Mod Podge
  • E6000
  • Paint brush (a little bit more stiff than a water color brush would be helpful)
  • Cord or chain to hang the pendant

Directions:
First, find a picture that you think is fun and you want to use. The trick is scale and color. This is small and it would be fun to have a shot of color as well. Once you have that, put the glass tile on the top of it and trace around the glass. Then cut just smaller than the lines all the way around.

I have three kinds of product here.

I could not find a “front” or “back” to the glass tile, so I just picked one. I used a squirt of the clear gel and spread it thinly across the “back” of the glass. Then I carefully pressed the picture onto the wet gel. Apply a little pressure to the back to work the air bubbles out, but take care not to tear the paper as it is now a little bit “wet” from coming into contact with the gel. Set this aside and let it dry thoroughly.

Next, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back. Use the brush to get a smooth coat. Set it aside to let it dry.
Once the back is totally dry, use a tiny amount of E6000 to the back of the bail and set that onto the top of the back. Wait and hold it in place for a moment to make sure it stays where you put it. Then, leave it to dry.

I made an artichoke

And then a fun pair of glasses

This was a great project. I think I will make more as gifts!

    • Oh my! THIS is how to do the tile thingies that I’ve bought in the past as dollhouse wall art.

I love reading through the round-ups (belatedly, I admit) but THIS one has rocked my world.
