PPR Challenge #12 – Kat’s Design

This week it was time for the avant garde challenge. A tricky challenge because what is avant garde? I’m not quite sure the judges on the are sure either. It was even tricker for me because I had to whip up a look in an hour before heading off on vacation.

Not only did we have to do an avant garde look, but there was a sponsor tie-in. The look had to be inspired by one of four color palette in the new Loreal Electric Fantasy line. I went with The Enchanted Queen which had a palette of red, black and grays.

My look is a dress made with a textured black fabric with shots of silver in it. The look is one-sided on top with a leather bandeau for the other side. The bell sleeve and asymmetrical hem call back to the thought of an enchanted queen. I paired it with black and silver booties and a cuff with a bright pop of red and orange.

I’m afraid the dress is a little heavier than I had hoped, but I didn’t have time to start over. A sleeker fabric might have worked better. After watching the judges this week on the show I’m not sure what they would have thought. Seems like they couldn’t agree either. I’m just looking forward to putting together my finale collection.
