PPR Challenge #10 – Kat’s Design

This week we got to have fun with glitz and glam by designing an outfit for the Rockettes to wear. The only constraint is the outfit had to be versatile, so it couldn’t be for their Christmas show.

This challenge was interesting on a doll scale because the size of most rhinestones and sequins really keeps us from doing a very intricate design. So, when I saw these sequined flowers I grabbed them. (The flowers were actually on a headband.)

They were the perfect size to form the top of my dress. I didn’t think it needed much more glitz than that, so I paired it with a simple white skirt. The skirt is made of stretch fabric for ease of movement and two slits in the front allow graceful high kicks. Under the skirt is a pair of white tap pants, so no one in the front row gets more of a show than they counted on.

If I was doing this in a real Rockette size, I would have added some illusion netting behind the flower up to the neckline in the front and back. Accessorizing with this type of outfit wasn’t easy, so I just went with white pumps. I think this outfit would stand out from the front row to the back of the theater with its large flower design. A row of Rockettes would look like a flower garden in these, they could even be done with different color flowers. How perfect for Easter and spring shows.

I don’t think I’d be going home for this one, especially compared to the two bottom dresses on the show this week. I don’t think it’s as good as Christopher or Dimitri’s, but I think it is fun and fits all the needs of a Rockette.

My model and Jenny’s couldn’t resist doing an impromptu kick line when they were in their dresses.

    • Both looks are adorable! I ended up really enjoying this challenge, even though I didn’t think I would. But this week? Baby clothes? Not so much. I don’t like it when they design for Heidi.
