This week for Wise Craft’s Granny Square Sampler Afghan Project, we made a square that isn’t square.
We made a Granny Rectangle. This is a really large “square” compared to most of the others in the afghan so far. I love the look of the color changing in both of these with that pop of yellow in the middle.
It was a little tricky getting this square started, mainly because you have to keep careful count of which chain you are hooking into. Some of the chains get quite small as you hook into the chain next to them, so it is easy to get the wrong count. I found it helped to count back from the bottom of the chain.
This square gives me an idea for another one inspired by Scandinavian pottery…I’ll have to play around with it.

Usually I don’t care for granny squares, but you have really shown some cute ones. Love the baby bird granny square. Thanks a million for changing my mind.
