The Stitch Lab

Over the spring, I was asked to work on the costumes for our school’s production of Snow White. I was thrilled to do it. The principal of the school is a fan of Project Runway and saw “My Episode” before my daughter even started at the school. I think that my 15 minutes of fame has been extended to 25 minutes at this point.  Somewhere in this whole process, someone at the main office of the school decided they wanted to offer sewing at the middle school. And (wait for it) they asked me if I would be interested in starting up a program and teaching the class. Well, yes indeed I would be interested!!!

There you have it. I have a new job! I will be setting up the sewing room at the school (in a room off the media center/library) and offering sewing as an elective. I have not worked “outside” the home in some years now. (This makes me one of the luckiest women on earth to have had this time with my kid.) But now, with this opportunity in front of me I am excited about the sewing and the kids, plus I am THRILLED to have found a way to be at home for my daughter and still contribute to the bottom line of our house in a meaningful way.

I will teach a pilot over the summer, then start full force in the fall with the new school year. Follow along with me as I set up the Stitch Lab!!!! Woo Hoo!

Have you ever taught kids how to sew? What were some of your successful projects?

    • What an exciting development in your life! Both my husband and I had sewing classes in middle school. I think about that as I gaze upon my still unpacked from the box sewing machine. Good luck on the new job!
