Iron Craft Challenge #42 – Santa’s Newest Reindeer

This week for Iron Craft we were challenged to create an “Imaginary Friend,” a doll, plushie or other character. I had bought some kits to make Christmas sock monkeys for some of my nephews and this seemed like a good time to get started on them. I don’t usually do much from kits, but these just sort of called out to me.

I’ve never made a sock monkey before. It was actually a lot more fiddly than I expected, getting all the skinny litte bits stuffed, hand sewing on the muzzle and limbs. I don’t think I got the face exactly right, maybe it’s too long or the muzzle needed to be wider set. Still, I think he’s pretty cute.

I left some of the stuff off that pattern that I thought was a little corny, but I think he needs something else, maybe a scarf. I have a kit to do another one that is dressed like an elf. I think when that one is finished my sock money making days might be over.

    • I was bothered by this week because I couldn’t think of a project and I was running out of time. I never even thought about getting a kit and I even have a Michaels gift card. Sometimes I can be so dense. As I have said before, I love holiday projects (especially Christmas). This is a great project. Well done.

    • That sock monkey is adorable. I want to make one! Where are the step by step instructions to guide me through my lack of sewing capabilities!???
