Egg-cellent Easter Table Top Projects

I found these wooden robins’ eggs on clearance for $.50 for three earlier this year, so I couldn’t refuse picking up a few to play with.

I decided to turn them into simple decorations for the Easter table. These are not going to be step by step instructions since they are such simple projects, but I still wanted to share.

My first thought was to make them into place card holders or tags for your Easter buffet.

To do this, I secured the eggs in a vice. Then I used a saw to cut a slot in the top of the eggs about 1/2 inch in. I tilted the slot slightly so the card insert with lean back.

The eggs got sanded to remove any marks from the vice and make sure the bottom was flat. After that, it was just a matter of spray painting them a flat white. It will take a few light coats to get the egg completely covered. Don’t spray too heavily or you’ll get drips.

Next I cut a couple of the eggs in half to use on napkin rings. Once again, I used a vice and saw to cut the eggs in half, sanded and painted. I made napkin rings out of ribbon and hemmed scrap fabric. Then the eggs get glued to the rings. They look elegant with just a simple blue ribbon, but vibrant and fun with the striped fabric.

You could also decorate your eggs. This would be a fun project for the kids. I experimented with crayons, markers and colored pencils for decorating. Sharpies gave the brightest colors. Cheap markers were really messy and the color didn’t stick well, but Crayolas worked a lot better. Color pencils gave nice pastel shades. Crayons didn’t really work at all, they mainly left clumps of wax.

I have a few more eggs left, any other fun ideas on how to use them on the table?
