Iron Craft ’15 Challenge #9 – Knit Fantasy Garden

The theme of this challenge was faux and we were to make something the looked like something it isn’t. I had seen some interesting knit gardens at a shop in Madison recently and thought it might be fun to try making my own.

My inspiration for the garden was Alice in Wonderland with the bright colors and mushrooms. I am thrilled with the end result.

I spent a lot of time coming up with how to knit the different shapes and get a layout that I liked. I’m particularly proud of the toadstools. Then I had to stop myself from adding more and more things!

Since I was still knitting and adding the last pieces yesterday, I do not have the patterns in a format to share with all of you yet. I’ll post the tutorial and all the knitting patterns in Thursday.

    • Lovely! I have some knitted African violets that I bought about 20 years ago and have travelled with me all over the world! I love them.

    • At first, I thought it was a pin cushion. But this really is stunning.I can’t even figure out the logistics of this. Also, what is the size? is this a miniature–regardless, it is spectacular. And what a way to highlight a beautiful milk glass bowl/container–the contrast really shows off the colors or the garden. So impressed.

      • Oh, I should have mentioned size! The bowl has a diameter of 5″. The little orange mushroom caps just fit on top of my baby finger.
