For this challenge, we were to craft around the letter “D.” I went through lists of things starting with “D” in my head trying to come up with an idea. I was a little stumped and then thought of my current Netflix binge, Doctor Who. (Yes, I am a little late to the party.) Could I make mittens that looked like Daleks?! The shape was pretty close, so I thought I’d give it a try.
Daleks have come in lots of different colors and have had slightly different design feature through out the years. I took my inspirations from this one
and these.
My mittens are meant to be a side view with the thumb as the “arm.” I didn’t add a second “arm” because I thought something else sticking out there might be annoying to wear.
I almost didn’t get these done on time, they just went in for blocking yesterday. I ripped the first one back three or four times to change things up, so the pattern is not quite ready yet. I’ll have it available here on Thursday.

Oh, how cool! Those are obviously Daleks to anybody who’s ever seen a Dalek… and for those who haven’t, it’s a nifty geometric design with a retro futuristic feel.
Thank you. It was a little tricker to get the right look than I had thought.
My friends got the reference immediately. I am always amazed at how you plot these designs and then turn them into real products. Another spectacular project.
These are awesome! I pinned them with fear and trembling, knowing my daughter will want me to forget all my WIP for these – even though it won’t be mitten weather for a while.
The pattern will be up tomorrow, so you can get started. The nice thing is these are a really quick knit. I did them in a week.
