Proud Knitter

Is this the look of a knitter proud of his first finished project or what?!

This is my 9-year old nephew Chase showing off his three-color neckwarmer. Chase asked me to teach him to knit back at Easter and has been hooked ever since. He picked it up quickly and surprises me with how he can put it down for a few weeks and then start up again with no help.

Originally, he wanted to make a long scarf, but I think the desire to have something finished he could wear changed that plan. He decided it was to be a neckwarmer for skiing. This was a great project for a beginning knitter since it was done just in knit stitch and with a super bulky yarn. (We used Lion Brand Hometown USA) Chase decided he wanted the three different colors, so he got to learn about changing colors as well. He is so proud and my sister says he wears it everyday.

Next we’ll move on to purl stitch and maybe a hat….

    • Congratulations to the both of you. I still haven’t mastered knitting and/or crocheting. Maybe this will be the motivation to try again.
