Passing It On

My eight-year old nephew has been asking and asking me to teach him to knit. Since he was visiting for Easter, I picked up some needles and yarn incase he asked again. Well, wouldn’t you know, “Can you teach me to knit?” was almost the first thing out of him mouth when they arrived on Saturday.
4/19 Learning to knit
I wasn’t sure how much patience he was going to have for it, but after a few rows with lots of hands on help he had the knit stitch down. It was great to see his concentration as he did, “just one more row.” Early Easter morning I was even greeted with a text message from the other bedroom saying, “Happy Easter! Can I knit?” Since his mom doesn’t knit, this will be a “time with Aunt Kathy project”, but I’m hoping I’ve helped inspire a new male knitter.

So, who passed on the love of knitting or other crafts to you? Do you pass it on to others in your life?

    • I hope to pass on knitting to my daughter. I leave needles and yarn out for her and sometimes she picks thems up and winds the yarn around. I can’t wait for when she’s older and we are both sitting around a campfire knitting together!

    • I remember learning to knit from my grandma, and cross stitch from my mom. I haven’t taught anyone yet, but both my boys (4 and 3) seem interested whenever I’m working on something, so I imagine I’ll teach them before too long.

    • You already know how I feel about adults and kids crafting/creating together. I just wish that I had someone to teach me when I was young. If I had, I would probably be wearing knit underwear.

      Well done.

    • I come from a long line of knitters and crocheters. Mostly, my mom has taught me, but I can get help from my grandma and my aunt. I first found your blog because of the knit peeps pattern. That was before I learned to knit. I have taught both of my daughters–10 and 12 to crochet, and my 10 year old taught her friend. I also learned to sew by sitting at the table and watching my mom.
