This Iron Craft challenge was to make something that uses the color black. Easy one, right? Especially this time of year. Yet, I still struggled with a project. I had lots of fleeting ideas, but nothing I liked enough to pull the trigger on. In the end, what I really wanted was a quick and easy knitting project I could do in front of the tv. Well, one of my favorite quick knits is handwarmers.
There is an ombré sweater in the Northern Knits book that I love, but it requires something like 9 shades of grey. It inspired me to do a much simpler ombré effect for these handwarmers.
This was a great way to use up the half balls of worsted weight yarn I had in my stash too. I love they way they turned out, but wish I had one lighter shade of grey.
I will write up a pattern for these and post it tomorrow, but they are basically made using my custom fit handwarmers “pattern”. I’m also envisioning a mitten version of these, so you’ll probably see that later this fall.

Another great project. Unfortunately, I was very literal in reading of the challenge. If I had thought outside the box like you did, I might have done something totally different. Well done.
