Signe Mitten Progress

Yesterday, I mentioned I was hoping to get the Signe Mittens done before the yarn for the 8,000 Feet Hoodie shows up. Well, I’m really moving on those mittens now. It took me a little bit to get into the rhythm of knitting these and I had to rip back a bunch of times, but the last two days was pretty smooth sailing.

Last night, I finished the body of the right mitten. I was a little worried it would be too short in the hand because I moved the location of the thumb up two rows, thus shortening the hand by two rows. Luckily, the fit is just about perfect and I’m glad I moved the thumb up. After a little blocking these will look custom fit for me.Signe Mittens In Progress
A learned a new mitten making skill too. The pattern called for making a thumb gusset, but I had no idea what that meant. I went and looked at some pictures of finished Signes on Ravelry enlightened me. Basically, the thumb gusset is a reverse repeat of the lower part of the thumb, but on the palm. Instead of doing increased you do decreases. It’s a pretty cool effect I think. I do wish the pattern had come with some pictures of the back of the mitten instead of just the front, this would have helped me solve a couple of questions much easier.

Today, I will finish that thumb and move on to the left hand!

    • Those mittens are gorgeous. I just started Elinor’s Mittens today. I almost wish I had chosen a classic color combo like the red and white or a navy and white for them after seeing yours.
