Iron Craft Challenge #5 – Simple Pop-Up Valentine

This week for Iron Craft I challenged everyone to make a Valentine. I think a handmade Valentine means so much more than one from the store. Most years I make Matt a handmade card (or in last year’s case a heart-bearing robot) & this year I wanted to try my hand at making a pop-up card. Other than the pop-up I wanted the rest of the card to be really simple & just text.

I looked online for some tutorials on pop-up & there are a lot of free patterns for them out there. None of them were exactly like what I wanted so, I just played around with some scrap paper until it worked. Once I got it I couldn’t believe how really simple it was!

Simple Pop-Up Valentine How-To

Supplies:

3 – 4 pieces of card stock
printer
scissors (either something like Elmer’s brushed on or glue stick will work)
glue

1. Print out your words for the front & inside of the card on card stock & cut out (You could print them right out on the card stock you are using as the card but I find it really hard to get it laid out correctly to have the printing centered where I want it.)

2. Print out the image you want to pop out on card stock. It’ll be easiest to use an image with a flat bottom (like Pooh’s bum here).

3. The image will need to fold in vertically. When you cut out this image leave two tabs at the bottom on either side of this fold line.

4. Fold these tabs to the back of the image.

5. Fold a blank piece of card stock in half. Trim to desired size.

6. Glue the words to the front & inside.

7. With the card open stand the pop-up image up so its fold line is lined up with the fold in the card. The fold in the image should face out. Glue the image into place by gluing down the tabs. Let dry.

8. Give your card to someone you love.

    • This is very adorable. I seen one with a heart too. I have to make one for my girls.

I did not know that Swedes decorate with hearts at Christmas. That is pretty neat.
