Advent Calendar Project ’14 – Week 7

(For the 24 weeks leading up to December 1st, we’ll be making a Christmas ornament, giving you enough to fill an advent calendar.)

This week’s ornament is another really quick and easy one, an acorn star. I feel like it’s important to have those quick and easy ones when you are making one ornament a week for those weeks when you are really busy.

I like the natural look of this. I think it goes really well with the Wooden Tree Ornament we made in week 4. I added some clear glitter paint to mine, because I like a little something for the light of the tree to sparkle off of, but you could leave this completely natural or just varnish the acorn nut.

This ornament and the wooden tree are ones that I feel would also make great ornaments on Christmas packages. I can see using brown butcher paper and some raffia for ribbon with these tied one. Because both are so easy to make you could easily do them in quantity.

Acorn Star

I almost feel silly writing a tutorial for this one, but here it is.
Supplies:

  • five acorns, approximately the same size
  • paint on glitter (optional)
  • paintbrush (optional)
  • hot glue
  • hot glue gun
  • 1/8″ ribbon, about a 6″ length

1. If you are going to glitter, varnish or paint the nut of your acorns do it first and let the dry.

2. Use the glue gun to glue the acorns together into a star shape. You are gluing the caps together with the nuts pointing out. I found it was best to start with the top one, do the two on either side and then the bottom two.

3. Glue ends of a length of ribbon to the back of the top acorn to form a loop.

Serious, quick and easy!
