Project Project Runway Challenge #6 – Rock the Wedding

Welcome to season 13 of Project Runway and a new season of Project Project Runway! If you want to join in the fun this season get all the details here. Let’s jump right in…

Challenge – Rock the Wedding
Shake off tradition and create an alternative wedding dress. There are no rules so unleash your creativity, but make sure it is believable for a bride and not a costume.

Bonus, also create a reception look that corresponds with the dress. This is optional for PPR because we don’t have teammates to help.

Time Limit – 12 hours

Budget – $40

Accessories – Choose your accessories from the Aldo Accessory Wall.

Runway Day – Runway day is Thursday, September 4th.
Just a reminder only in-progress photos should be posted to the Flickr group before Runway Day. Save the big reveal for next Thursday. Please tag your photos with PPR13 and ProjectProjectRunway. Do not make Tim give you this look!

Ok, let’s talk about this episode. (Warning spoilers ahead!)
I totally agreed with the winning team, they were the clear winners. Was it super original? No, but it really was beautiful and well done. Poor Kini though, Sean won for his work. He should have spoken up on the runway about making the shirt. Kini can sew like nobody’s business!

As for the bottom three groups. I didn’t hate Emily’s dress as much as the judges did. I was over the top goth, but that was what it was. I think the problem was they didn’t look like the belonged to the same person.

With Alexander and Samantha, when their looks first went down the runway I thought they looked good, especially the wedding dress. When they showed them up close though, I really did change my mind. I can only imagine that they looked awful in person.

But Char and Sandhya were the clear losers, the color, the shapes, the awful construction. I’ve seen a lot of yellow on the red carpet this past season and it so rarely looks good on anyone. I think Sandhya was lucky the judges like her and that there wasn’t a double elimination.

And can we talk about contrived drama?! Korina says something bad about Amanda and suddenly they are teammate? Gasp, how did that happen? Give me a break. And really, I agree Amanda does come off a little fake. Anyway, their looks were ok, though I don’t think they looked like they belonged to the same person either. Korina spent all the time on the jacket and I think it looked like it fit a little funky. Does anyone else think Amanda messed up the pants on purpose?

    • I agree, Kini should have spoken up. Actually, I think Sean should have done, when they asked him who should win, but when he didn’t mention that Kini made the blouse, Kini should have said so himself. And I’m with you on Emily’s look. I wouldn’t wear it, but I can definitely see that there’s a market for wedding dresses like that, and they did say ‘alternative bride’.

I feel like all of Sandhya, Alexander and Samantha got lucky this week. I really think all their looks were dreadful. I actually think Amanda and Korina were pretty lucky that there were so many bad looks on the runway too.

But I’m excited to have a wedding dress challenge this week!
