Project Project Runway Challenge #9 – It’s All About Me

Challenge – It’s All About Me
Create a textile and modern runway design based on your own cultural heritage. You can use other fabric, but your textile should be the star of your look. Do not design a national costume.

For us, this is always a tricky challenge, both because of the scale and the fact we aren’t having fabric professionally printed. Design your fabric anyway you wish, fabric markers, paint, stamps or try printing on fabric with your computer printer. We love to see what innovations you come up with.

People on the show kept mentioning how much they always love this challenge. I’ve always felt that the fabrics the designers create are not very good, they tend to look a little cheap. I was happy they gave them so direction this year with the direction to use their cultural history as inspiration, but boy, some of them took that direction VERY loosely. I agreed with the win, but thought any number of designs could have been at the bottom. What did you all think?

Time Limit – You have 2 days to complete your fabric and your look.

Accessories – Feel free to chose accessories from the Lord and Taylor Accessory Wall to go with your outfit.

Runway Day – Thursday, Sept 20th
Just a reminder only in-progress photos should be posted to the Flickr group before Runway Day. Save the big reveal for next Thursday. Please tag your photos with PPR9 and ProjectProjectRunway.
