Quilt of the Day: Ghost Plants

This quilt caught my attention. It’s called Ghost Plants.  It is by Mary of Mary & Patch.

This quilt is striking. The colors are subtle and amazing. I love the golds against the greens and blues. I am trying to dissect how it was done.

It looks to me like there is a horizontal stripe. Then a white layer, and then a vertical stripe layer. I believe they were all sandwiched together, and then the leaves were quilted. Then the top layer was exposed to find the white layer. More quilting (and those stitches look like they were dong by hand to me.) and then the white was cut to expose the vertical stripe pieces. This is three layer revers applique.
Friends, I tell you, that is a LOT of work there. It is not surprising to me that this quilt is going on tour.

    • That is a gorgeous quilt! I have done a bit of the reverse applique and it can be really time consuming even with a small project, so this one is certifiably insane!
