#301 – Project Project Runway – Finale

This is it folks, the end of season 8 of Project Runway. As much as I enjoy watching the show, this season was made much more fun because of this project. Even though there were some stressful weeks trying to get an outfit done on time & all the issues with sewing in doll size, I would totally do it again! The best part has been doing this with my friend Susi over at Craftroom, keeping us close even though we are thousands of miles apart. Her sewing skills blew me away especially when she started this project by sewing pants & a shirt with sleeves! I do have to admit I’m proud of a lot of the designs we put out there, check all of mine here & Susi’s here.

Anyway on to the finale….
Project Project Runway - Finale Mini Collection
The designers were given weeks & lots of money to finish a 10 piece collection to show at Fashion Week. Susi & I had one week & no one was giving us any money so, we decided to just do one look that we would consider the last dress we would send down the runway at our show. Yeah, well, I started sewing yesterday (yes, yesterday) & ended up thinking my first look wasn’t show stopping enough. So, I started a second & then had an idea for a quick third look. Leaving me with a mini collection similar to what the designers had to do last episode to make it to the finale. (Don’t kill me Susi! Sometimes I’m just an over achiever & I’m not constrained by toddler naptime.)

I did cocktail, evening & daywear looks. Hopefully the judges will like the fact I’m showing three different types of looks (something the designers on the show seemed to forget to do). I was tempted to add more bling to some of these (especially the evening dress) but, I found I prefer beautiful clean lines with interesting open backs instead of beads, sequins, etc…
Project Project Runway - Finale Look 3
The cocktail dress is fun & flirty with loops of ribbon creating lots of movement in the skirt & a plunging v-neck in the front & back. The ribbon surprisingly doesn’t create too much bulk at the hips.
Project Project Runway - Finale Look 2
The evening dress is a sleek, classy one-shoulder look that pulls a lot of inspiration from South Asia. Wouldn’t this be gorgeous on someone like Anne Hathaway on a red carpet?

The daywear look is a purple jersey tunic dress with black leggings. It has seaming at the bust line & an open “v” at the back as a juxtaposition to the turtleneck in front.

Make sure to go over to Craftroom & check out what Susi has sent down the runway to wow us today! Her fabric is gorgeous & the look is high end. I can totally see Nina wanting to have it in a Marie Clare photo spread.

Thanks to all of you who followed along, commented & cheered us on! Who’s in with us for Season 9?
